The Northumbria Mysteries

The news is out! We’re over the moon to announce our new series The Northumbria Mysteries for BBC One and iPlayer. 🎉

A love letter to our home region, the North East, The Northumbria Mysteries is an 8-part drama starring Robson Green as Joe Ruby, a jack-of-all trades whose life has been shaped by mistakes, regrets and missed opportunities.

Joe meets Rose, Oxford-educated DI Rose O’Connell played by Liz White, a rarefied intellectual, a deep thinker with a brilliant mind and an ice-cool disposition. In a classic odd-couple pairing, Joe and Rose combine their talents as they frustrate, confound and ultimately surprise one another while unravelling a series of compelling crime mysteries.

Further cast members announced include Simon Callow, Kevin Whately, Gurjeet Singh and Chris Gascoyne.

The series was commissioned by Helen Munson, BBC Commissioning Editor for Daytime and Early Peak and is supported by North East Screen. Aschlin Ditta, Gordon Anderson and Chris Gascoyne serve as Executive Producers for Lonesome Pine, and Helen Munson for the BBC. The series will be directed by Gordon Anderson and Duncan Foster and produced by Lesley Douglas.
